Do I have to change my last name on my work permit after I get married?
LawQA.com's picture

I got married to a US citizen in USA. Now I'm waiting for my work permit. I changed my surname into my husband's surname after we got married. Now I'm wondering in my working permit, what would my name be in there? Would it be my maiden name or my new surname after I got married? When I get my social security number, can I ask them if I could use my new surname already when I register for a social security number?

The answer to your question depends upon how you filled out the forms. If you completed the forms using your maiden as your last name, the work authorization card will be issued in that name and vice versa. As for your question regarding social security, you must contact your local social security office for the answer.
